MG MGB Technical - Heater tubes

I am doing a LHD to RHD conversion on a feb 1974 US spec mgb roadster.

Having removed the dash and windscreen wiper system, I now want to remove the corrugated tubes that run the short distance from the bulkhead to the reat of the dash vents.

They came out of the back of the dash vents easily but it is not clear how the bulkhead end should be released. Are they just a push fit over a stub that comes through the bulkhead? I don't want to break them as I may be able to reuse them with the UK RHD dash.

pull them off of the 90 degree rubber elbow then unscrew the oval plate then take out the two plastic tubes

They are not on elbows. You may be thinking of demister tubes.

Hi David.

I seem to remember that mine were sealed / attached with some hard off-white material and that I had to break mine off. I don't know if this was 'standard'. (1980 model)

David,

They just snap through the bulkhead holes with moulded in clips on the tube.

On mine there are just a couple of plain holes in the bulkhead. I seem to remember the hoses just fell out when I removed the dash but that was years ago now so I could be mistaken.

Since I am not planning on using them with my new dash I was wondering if it would be worth ducting air from those holes through a pipe to the LHS of the car and then through the hole in the firewall the pedal box used to sit behind (mine was also converted from LHD to RHD) thus bringing fresh air in to the rear carb. Only I don't know that air would actually go in the right direction! Maybe air would flow out the wrong way and go from the engine bay to the vent in front of the windscreen. Or worse be sucked into the heater.

The other plan is to just block them off with grommets or else magnetic covers. Then I can move them if I want fresh air coming through them.
