MG MGB Technical - HELP- Spiral snap ring needed 1970 master cylinder
I've just completed rebuilding my 1970 MGB master cylinder and was almost finished until it came time to reinstall the little spiral snap ring that retains the return spring cup...(WHY couldn't they include a NEW snap ring in the rebiuld kit???). Anyway, I was wrestling with simultaneously compressing the return spring while installing the blasted ring when it flew out of my hand, and presumably into the 4th dimension. I spent minutes searching for it. Then I foolishly drove around to every place around that might sell snap rings thinking I could just buy a replacement.... HA! What a joke. The ring is apparently made out that ultra rare Earth metal- UNUBTAINIUM. So then I spent several HOURS combing my garage for the lost ring. I even looked in absurd places for it. To no avail, it's history. So before I throw in the towel and buy a new master cylinder, does anybody know where I can get a replacement snap ring? A normal snap ring won't work due to the close proximity of the spring cup. Any ideas?? Scott |

Scott, Email me your shipping address and I will send you one. I just disassembled a master cylinder and ended up ordering a new one, due to pitting in the bore. Dave Winne Liverpool, NY dwinne@twcny.rr.com |
