MG MGB Technical - HIF 44 Carb Filter side

Does anyone know if the bolt/hole pattern on the filter side of the HIF 44 is the same as any other SU carb if one were interested in adding a ram horn to this carb.
Frank

Frank,

I think the HIF44 is specifically designed to replace the Zenith and therefore it uses the Zenith connections. There is a special K&N filter available which will fit but I don't know of any ram-pipes is 2" design.

good luck

Carl

Carl,
As best as I can tell the air filter side connections are different from the Zenith, however, I was wondering if they shared commonality with any other SU carb.
Frank

The HIF44, as I recall, is the newer version of the HIF6 (1 3/4" SU)...I would think the filter arrangement would be the same.

Barry,
Glad to see you back on the forum. As you might recall I too have gone your route with the Mike Brown ZS carb set-up and have thus far been quite pleased with my results. The reason I am asking about the SU HIF 44 is this is the carb being used with both the Moss and the Australian supercharger set-up. I was interested in the filter side set up wondering if a ram pipe would be available for this carb if one were to design an cold air box for use with such a supercharger.
Frank

Frank,

Sounds interesting. While I'd confirm with the vendor, one designed for the HIF6 should do it.

Frank:

The HIF44 air filter bolt pattern is NOT the same as an HIF6 or Zenith 175CD2. I made the assumption that it was the same as the HIF6 and got really embarrassed. The bolt pattern is unique, so if you want stacks you will have to do some redrilling or slotting.

been there, done that, still bear the scars

That surprises me because I have, what I believe to be, a HIF44 on my car and the PO bolted the original airfilter housing (of the Zenith, that is) right back on.
I have changed it to a K&N filter and although I have seen some differences the bolt pattern seems to be the same.
However I have to agree taht the HIF44 is not the replacement of the HIF6. Also the K&N filter is a special size.

Frank,
I have found an answer to your original question. The company below sells rampipes for HIF44. Ceck out their list

Carl,
Thanks for that site...in the states Advanced Performance Technology (APTfast.com) also sells a ram pipe/horn for the HIF 44 which I discovered after asking this question and then revisiting their site. It looks like this may become a popular carb as it is the one being touted as a replacement for the ZS as well as for the MGB Supercharger.
