MG MGB Technical - HIF 44 Conversion DONE!!

I put on my HIF 44 Carb I got off Ebay today and it is
great!I have more power and a smoother idle,I have a "killer"hill out here that is long and steep,I usually had to shift down into third near the top and today after the conversion I got up it in fourth gear at about 52mph!My ZS was in good shape having been rebuilt a few years ago but this SU is much better,it is worth the trouble Now I don't know if it would be worth the list price $500 but I got the carb for $90 and put a $75 K&N filter on it.
Now a couple of question:
1:If I have seen this much improvement over the old ZS would I see some more if I put on the Marina manifold I have?Would it be worth the time?

2: Has anyone done this conversion? What did you do with the valve cover vent hose ?

3: what do you do with the overflow nipple I put a piece of hose on it and put it down between the frame a brake line so it wouldn't spill any gas on the exhaust.

4: I put the crankcase ven on the vent port is this a good idea or should I just let it hang down?

I recommend this conversion it has good low end grunt
and more pick up,and is a simple job as you still use the original manifold.

Pat,

You should see a vast improvement with the Marina manifold, as it is essentially an early B exhaust with the single carb intake. Your exhaust flow should rise dramatically, as the single Z-S manifold is really junk, flow-wise. I think you will probably have to adjust the needle a bit richer.

I haven't done this myself, so can't answer your other questions. Nice to meet you in Fullerton, and put a face to the name.

Pat...I agree with Paul. The Marina manifold has better flow qualities.

I installed an HIF6 off of a Marina on my '78 MGB back in 1991, using the MG manifold. Performance was better than the ZS...but I now have dual HS4s on it...I ran the HIF6 from 1991 through about 2000.
