MG MGB Technical - Horn shorts headlights
When I use my horn on my'72 B while the headlights are on it instantly blows the fuse and the headlights go out.(this is a problem at 60 mph) Any ideas where to start. Jay T. |

JT, Sounds like both the lights and the horn have been wired through the same fuse and operating both together overloads theis fuse...resulting in a blown fuse and no lights when the horn is used. If you are not electrically inclined my serious suggestion is find a reputable auto elecrician and pay them to sort it out. If this has been done a thorough check of ALL things electrical would be a priority for me before something goes up in smoke. |

The headlights when operated from the main lighting switch were not fused from the factory, although the headlamp flasher comes off the same fuse as the horns. As well as the headlights being wired incorrectly there is also another problem, since obviously one should be able to use the headlamp flasher and horns at the same time without blowing the fuse. Either an incorrect fuse is being installed (it should be 17A rated 35A blow, usually marked with the latter on the end-cap or internal paper) or the horns or headlights are partially shorting out and taking too much current. |
