MG MGB Technical - Horn switch question

Hey, guys. '69 Roadster, stock. I started the car today and the horns decided they wanted to be on. Nevermind that I was sitting in traffic and had the car shut off while waiting at a railroad crossing. Ack. Embarrassing! Anyway, I could get the horns to stop by pulling the lever towards me, like when you flash your bright headlights. Just for a minute or so though, then the horns came back on. I pulled over and shut off the car. Horns still blaring. Thank goodness for battery cutoff switches! :) Anyway, I disconnected the wire at the passenger side horn and all was well. I continued on home. My question is, is there any mechanism inside the switch (there doesn't appear to be) that may be dirty, or is the switch contact inside the knob end of the turn signal stalk, under the black knob? Know what I mean? I don't know if there's a way to get the black knob off to clean any contacts. I think the problem has to be there somewhere. Any insight would be appreciated. I like my horns and it would be nice if I could get them working again.

Thanks,

Think I found the problem. The sliding parts of the switch inside the horn button are fried. I hope it's possible to replace those parts without having to do the whole turn signal/high beam switch and stalk....

Unless you make something yourself then it means a new switch

You could always go MGA style: great big pushbutton in the center of the dash. :)

Yeah, I perused the web last night... Moss's switch is $93.... bummer. I just know it's going to be a hassle putting it in. :( I'm hoping it will be a simple plug for the wiring. We shall see! What's better than working on the MG on a nice sunny day, with the baseball game on the radio and perhaps a cool beverage to make the job somewhat fun?!

Roger,

I have a couple of used turnsignal switches that have been scavenged for one part or another. I may have one with the internal horn switch in tact. Let me know if you can't find something and I'd be willing to send you the internal switch.
