MG MGB Technical - Horn Wires in Harness
I'm finally geting around to installing the new headlight harness in the '63 B. It has the purple and purple/black wires that connected the two horns together on dual-horn cars. My car only has one horn, so I don't need the purple & purple/black wires at all. Does anybody out there know if the factory used the dual-horn harness on all cars, or was there separate harness for cars with single horns? Thanks, Greg |

Greg The horn wires are in the loom only for one horn(purple and black/purple). To fit two horns high and low it has a seperate loom to connect them together as it was always an extra for the second horn. Ste |

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. This is just the harness that runs between the headlights, parking lights, and turn signals under the slam panel. Thanks, Greg |

Greg - The car originally come with 2 horns and the purple and purple/black wires should be in the sub harness going across the slam panel (of course, they don't need to be hooked up if you only have one horn. Cheers - Dave |

Hi Dave, From reading various wiring diagrams, I was under the impression that the second horn was optional. I guess I need to get a horn! Cheers, Greg |

....and my single horn, doesn't have the double-blade connectors to jump the wire to the other horn... Greg |

Ste, Thanks for the picture. What are those two fat plastic tube-looking things running along side the harness? Greg |
Greg Van Hook |
Greg As you have read the second horn was optional only. As your horn has only one set of spades onit look in the bellmouth of your horn. It will either have a L for low tone or H for high tone. The other horn to the one you have will have the two sets of spades to split of off. The fat tubing is covering that i slide over my wires from the headlights and side lights to neaten it up. Ste |

Ste, I'm trying to figure out how the harness is suspended beneath the slam panel. I can see from your photo that it's suspended near the right horn by a clip bolted to the panel at about the fifth (from right) vertical grill bar. I'm guessing there is at least one more clip suspending the harness - on the left side? Would you mind posting another photo from the outside front showing where/how the clips are attached? Or could you please describe where the clips are located and the hardware that's used to mount the clips to the body (phillips or pozi screw with nut, or whatever)? Thanks a lot, Greg |

Greg this is from the inside. Use P clips then bend up out off way covering nut. Ste |

Ste, Thanks so much. Perfect end to a great day. Just got back from seeing "Lion King" on Broadway for my 16-year-old son's birthday. He's deaf and they had an interpreted show. Even the traffic wasn't bad - we were through the Lincoln Tunnel within 10 minutes of picking up the car. Awesome. Anyway, your pictures are perfect, and you car looks topnotch. Cheers, Greg |
