MG MGB Technical - How does your trunk/boot fit?

Hi

I've just got a '78 roadster. The first of what appears to be many jobs was to sort the boot latch. It did open with a bit of fiddling when I first got the car, but my "correcting" adjustments stopped it working altogether.

I meventually managed to get it open with the car-jack against a wall technique - top idea! (I've had the car less than a week and the information from this site is already a god send).

Anyway - how proud should the boot stand? Mine's far from flush with the surrounding body panels. It sits about 0.5 - 1.0 cm above them. It was my attempt to make it more flush by lowering the catch part of the latch that got it stuck.

The boot seal doesn't appear unusually thick. Should the boot sit pround or flush?

Thanks for any info

They should sit flush. On my old mgb roadster with new bootlid, the fit at the fron of the lid (by he hood) on the passanger side was awful. Spaced out the hinges to body bolts which bought the hinge down to bring the lid down nearer the body.

My 73 is far from flush by the hinges but is OK at the lock. Adjusting the lock won't cure any proudness at either edge, you have to adjust the hinges - fore and aft to get the opening edge flush, up and down with spacers to get the hinge edge equal if not flush.
