MG MGB Technical - HS4 float chamber
Hi. I'm the owner of a '73 BGT that has HS4 carbs. The rear float chamber is throwing away fuel to the floor by the overfill hose. I've tried several washers on the needles to no avail. The problem only happens when ignition is on but engine is not running. The fuel pump never stops and fuel eventually is thrown away. One more thin washer and the needle will stop fuel coming in. So I don't know what to do. Please advise. Thanks, Valter. |

Sounds like the needle jets are leaking so get new needle jet assemblies and reset correct float heights. Rich. |

I'm thinking that the hinge pivots on the floats themselves are worn and sloppy. When this happens, then putting washers under the float needle assembly is mostly a temporary fix - if it works, at all. The only real fix for this is to get new floats and pins. I'd advise changing the floats on both the front and rear carbs as they tend to wear-out as a pair. Always check the float level before final installing on the car. |
