MG MGB Technical - HS4 SU Needle question
I have just put my old set of SU HS4 carburators back on my 1963 MGB and based upon the advice in How to Power Tune MGB's by Peter Burgess, I ordered a #6 SU Needle from Moss motors as I am running K&N filters, pipe cam, etc. The current needle in the carbs were stamped 5. FYI - I bought the SU's new from Moss about five years ago and they carry the tag AUD135. When I went to put the new needles in over the weekend, I found that the old needles stamped "5" were opf the biased type (spring and round top) and I did not see any way to replace the five needle with the 6 as what Moss sent me were just straight needles with no large round top. It looked like the biased needle was one fixed piece and could not be replaced or at least I wanted some advice before I pursued this remedy. Has anyone out there had a similar issue and how did you resolve it. I was even wondering if I had HIF 4 carbs but after researching this it does not look like it either. SInce these were new, did they use some type of needle setup that is not standard? thanks for any help Ed Koschka |

Ed. All of the current production Burlen/SU carbs I have seen have the biased needles. Try a set of AAA needles. They work quite well for me on my 68 with the K&N filters. Les |
