MG MGB Technical - Identifying Heads
I have inherited two cylinder heads. One has the number "15" cast into the top, rear of the head, while the other appears to be the same but lacks the "15" casting. Can anyoneone help with the identification and application of these heads? Thanks, JR |

The 15 indicates it came from a 15 or 1600 engine. |

Are there any other markings cast into the head? Say a 12HXXXX number? This will help immensely in figuring out the original application. |

Hey Paul, (from Around The World) One head, which appears to be a 1500 or 1600, only has the following N0's: 1H967 & Mowog- 3 The other, which is physically smaller, (maybe a midget?) has this: 309 126940 N0 4 Any help there? Regards, JR |

JR, I looked at Doug Jackson's web site to see if the tech article on heads, http://www.mgbmga.com/tech/mgb25.htm, had MGA casting numbers, but the earliest it shows is the 12H906 head for the early MGB's. You might try Emailing Doug at mgbmga@mindspring.com and ask. If the second head is physically smaller it very well may be an "A" series head from a Spridget or other BMC product (Mini/Minor, etc). Sorry not to have been more help. I'm actually from San Diego, just the other side of the world temporarily. Cheers! |
