MG MGB Technical - ignition light is on
the ignition light stays on my 65B. I checked the generator & it's OK, replaced the voltage regulator, checked the wiring, still won't go out.... |

Aaron - When you checked the generator, how did you check it? If you just checked for 12v, then you should recheck it using the following procedure. Disconnect the wires from both generator terminals, jumper the terminals together and then connect a voltmeter, set for 20v, between the jumpered terminals and ground. Start the engine, but keep the revs low, increasing them slowly while watching the meter. The meter reading should increase rather rapidly if the generator is good. Do not allow the revs to increase to the point where the voltage from the generator goes above 20v. If the generator will put out voltage up to 20v, the generator is good and you need to start looking at the regulator. If the generator voltage will not increase above 12v, then you need a new generator or get the present one overhauled. Good luck - Dave |

david, are you saying connect BOTH of the terminals on the generator to ONE SIDE of the voltmeter and ground the other voltmeter lead ? Aaron |

Aaron - That is correct, both terminals on the generator are jumpered together and then connected to the voltmeter (unless your 65 B has been converted to negative ground, conect the negative side of the meter to the generator and the positive side to ground. Good luck - Dave |

What voltage are you getting on a brown at the fusebox with the engine at a fast idle and minimal electric load, first? |
