MG MGB Technical - Ignition Switch Help

About to drive my 73 MGB over to have my tuned exhaust built and no ignition key. No problem, I have a new switch and keys so I'll just install the new switch I haven't installed yet. I removed the wheel and cowl and I Go to the "Complete Official MGB" it says "Remove the 4 switch retaining screws" I cannot find any screws on the switch. Just two captive fasteners on the top with no visibal way to unfasten. Can enybody tell me what I am missing. By removing the switch from the opposite side of the key switch I can start the car w/ a screwdriver but I would like to put it straight while all disassembled.

After rereading I may not have been clear enough. The electrical switch is OK I just need to change the key cylinder.

Thanks, Ken

Another set back even though I can start the car I cannot turn the steering wheel

That is as it should be. The two screws on top can be removed with the aid of a center punch and hammer. Dimple them in three equally spaced spots each then use the punch at an angle to drive the screws counter-clockwise until they come out enough that you can spin them with your thumb. "Installation is the reverse of disassembly" ;-)

While Jim is correct, I've found that a short hacksaw blade, or a die grinder with a cut-off wheel, will cut a nice slot in the head of those break-a-way bolts, which enables the use of a slotted screw driver for both removal and reassembly.
Good luck.

Jim & JR thanks,

I called Moss to order new parts and they told me to use an impact wrench, I didn't agree. I'll try my dremmel tool in the morning. Hopefully I can get my exhaust system tomorrow afterall.

Life is good, used my dremmel tool w/ a cut off disk to cut a slot worked like a charm. My next post will be about the exhaust.
