MG MGB Technical - in-line fuel filter
I have just removed a huge amount of brown deposit from the bottoms of my carburettor float chambers while replacing the leaky gaskets. The obvious solution is to fit an in-line fuel filter. The question is where. Does fitting one just before the carburettors cause any problems? It sort of seems wrong to have a plastic bowl full of fuel just above and behind the inlet manifold. Does the UK MoT have any regulations concerning the siting of these filters? Any advice gratefully received. best steve |

Steve - anywhere between the fuel pump and the carbs is a good spot for a filter. I don't recommend placing it before the fuel pump since, if the filter becomes clogged, the pump will stop pumping in a current on condition. This situation will result in the swamping resistor in the pump to burn out if the power is left on, which in turn leads to rapid contact burning of the points. Regardless of where you place the filter, a priority for you at this point is to clean or replace the tank and insure that the interior of the tank is sealed against further rusting. Good luck - Dave |

You can buy a filter either Plastic see through or metal with a holding bracket which I have mounted on my firewall and it works fine and is easy to replace Cec |
