MG MGB Technical - Independent rear suspension
Some time back I found an article on Independent Rear Suspension for the MGB. If I recall correctly, the system used a custom built subframe, carrying a Ford Sierra differential and shortened driveshafts, along with coil spring syuspension and disc brakes. I've tried a search and got nowhere - does anyone have any more information on this? Thanks |

try the V8 site, there's at least one member going down this route. Mike |

They've been to every big MG bash recently. Pretty sure they'll be at Silverstone too. Looks pretty good |

Richard, The Hoyle IRS sold by Hawk and NG http://www.hawkcars.co.uk/parts/mgbrsusp.html Cost about £1,500 plus other bits say £2,500 Geoff can confirm exact costs. For a V8 conversion this is well worth considering due to cost of converting and it does come with rear dics and LSD. Paul |

Richard, I fitted the John Hoyle IRS to my car a few months ago and can certainly recommend it. The total cost was about £2,500 using all new or refurbished parts and the highest standard CW&P ratio (3.11:1) available. Obviously it would be cheaper with used parts and second-hand diff. LSD is extra incidentally. If you need any more info drop me a note. Geoff |

Geoff Banchory - where abouts? I've family in Roscobie Park up on the hill near the hospital. I'm surprised you didn't stretch that tiny bit further for the LSD with all that snow - Or is it a sunny day car only? |

Stuart, East side of Banchory, by the garden centre. I don’t use it in the snow with all the salt on the road, the company Mondeo, my Jag X type and Mini get the bad weather, the B keeps it’s hood down! If you knew how much I’ve spent on the car you would know I had to draw a line somewhere and that ‘tiny bit’ is several hundred pounds. I can always fit a LSD later but I don’t think I’ll bother. The car is not raced and for road use so far it has been fine, sure I can light up the rear tyres but it needs a bit of abuse, it doesn’t lift the inner wheel in corners and there is no axle tramp. Do you get up to Banchory? Geoff |

Geoff Not been up for a while except Grandfathers funeral. Won't be up now until next Summer now. Hopefully get up the Lairig Ghru again and do a bit of climbing. Used to go every year as family holiday. Cannot believe how much I miss it now. Even climbing Scoltie (is that how you spell it) knackered me out! The Braemar A93 road is superb in a B.... Not so good for my midget... |

Stuart, We usually climb Scolty on midsummer’s day at midnight; it never really gets dark. I agree the Braemar road along the Dee is great, I drive there regularly in the V8 B. The Banchory to Fettercairn road is also superb and so many others for that matter. I was up on the Moray coast with the Highland MGOC last weekend and I’ll be at the Kildrummy Castle Rally this Sunday. Making you jealous yet? Give me a call when you are up this way. Geoff |
