MG MGB Technical - Inline fuse for dashboard lights?
I was trying to troubleshoot the light in the fuel gauge with my voltmeter when I accidentally grounded the circuit. Now, none of the panel lights work. I tested all the fuses in the fuse box and they are OK. Is there an inline fuse in this circuit that I'm not aware of? Thanks. |

No inline fuse that I'm aware of. But check the fuses connect well in the fuse box. Often old fuse boxes do not connect that well or fittings corrode etc. The wiring diagram should help you discover at what point there is no supply. Also check for necessary earths -this is probably thru the gauge body but some have multiple connections attached to the back of the gauge fitting knurled nuts....After that there is the panel brightness knob. From dim to dimmer.... I never touch mine -if I did it would probably find a corroded part of the track and fail. You could short this out temporarily to concentrate on the rest of the circuit. Just test one thing after another. It's dead boring aand draw out what you do on paper so you can keep track of it. Even more boring.... Good luck |

Or is it possible your instrument bulbs have blown? Does your map/door light still work? If so try the bulb from that in the fuel gauge first. Regards Roger |

The dashboard rheostat consists of a coil of very thin wire. Could be this melted when you shorted the circuit? Just thinking out loud. It'd be a good idea to test this item while you're under there. |
