MG MGB Technical - Installing headlights
Ok another silly question. I just purchased new headlight buckets, but I cannot figure out how to put them in. Is there a top? Should the hole for the wire point to the engine? Also, inside at the bottom is a metal piece attached with a hole in it. Is this where the spring attaches? What will it attach to, the metal housing (if that is what it is called)? Thanks agian for the help. I'm almost done so I won't need to ask anymore Questions.......................... ...................................................... .................................................... Sorry. I was laughing so hard at that statement, remembering this is a B I'm talking about, my finger stayed on the key. Ken 70 B |

Hello Ken, The buckets go in with the retaining clip for the chrome trim rings at the bottom. There should be one adjuster screw at the top and the other to the left (if I remember correctly) as you face the front of the car. You are correct about the spring. The other end goes on the inner silver colored 'bucket' and keeps the tension on the adjustment screws. Then the headlight goes in and is held in place with a chrome ring held by small screws. The buckets attach to the body with screws into the flange on the fender. There are supposed to be extra pieces on the flange to allow the use of sheet metal type screws. I am finding that these do not line up very well - I do not have enough room to install the trim rings without scratching the new paint. I will probably drill holes and use nuts to hold the buckets in. Good luck, Jim |
