MG MGB Technical - Instrument Bezel
i'm sure this is a stupid question, and at one time I knew how to do it, but i'm old and forgetful. i want to remove the bezel from my tach to clean it- do i have to loosen the tach to take it off, or should i be able to do it while in place? thanks! Don |

Have you looked in your Bentley manual for guidance? I think the directions will be in Section N, but I am not sure. I don't have a factory service manual for pre '75 Bs. |

Mine was loose and came off without removing the tach. However, to get it solidly back in place I removed the tach. I don't think its supposed to come off without removing the tach. BH |

You have to loosen the tach at least, but more likely you will have to remove it to clean the remains of the rubber before the bezel can be twisted off. Very little difference between loosening and removing! may as well remove anyway. |

Removal may be trickier on a US midget than a UK MGB! But what cleaning is needed? If you are concerned about getting polish in the 'grain' of the wrinkle dash and I can understand that, I'd cut a hole in a piece of thin card just big enough to fit over the bezel and protect the dash. If you do remove the tach and remove the bezel, as well as the rubber ring around the case which butts up aginst the dash there is another rubber ring between the bezel, glass and case. Both of these liquify over time, and glue the bezel and glass to the case pretty securely. The bezel twists off, look for the cut-outs in the case lip, the tabs on the bezel have to line up with these, I had to ease the tabs back very slightly before io could twist mine off. |
