MG MGB Technical - Interior Paint touch up
Had a Main brake cylinder leak that put fluid on floor and lifted the paint off my pretty new floorboards. Plan on scraping, sanding and covering with something and was looking for advice on what to use. Assume a good rust preventive primer. Since it is under the carpet do I really need anything else? Is primer enough or does a top coat give more protection. Probably use black since interior is black. Any advice or thoughts out there? Thanks. |

Try POR15. Its tough and should hold up to brake fluid if it happens again. http://www.por-15.com |

Always topcoat over a primer. Primers are porous, being designed to adhere to a surface and give a surface that topcoats can readily adhere to. How many cars have you seen driving around, where the owner has been doing a bit of bodywork, and left it primed. Notice all the rust stains in the primer after a few weeks. I prefer to use Rustoleum, even though some folks seem to think it takes forever to dry...it takes a couple days, because it's an oil-based enamel. But, it really seals well and is very durable once completely dry. Rob |
