MG MGB Technical - K series Conversion
I recently just read about a K series conversion in to a MGB. This interests me as the fuel economy of my current engine isn't best pleasing with todays petrol prices. Does anyone know any companies which offer a kit for k series conversion which still uses the standard gearbox? If you do could you post a link to their websites. Regards Stephen |

Not sure it would work with the standard gearbox. Most K series in use in rwd format (Caterham) use the Ford Type 9 five speed box for which adaptors are readily available. The type 9 5 spd box is also available for fitment to the B series, too. If it's fuel economy you want the 1.4 16v engine still makes more power than a std B (about 103bhp as used in the MG ZR 105), and is half the weight! K series is also used commonly used in Morris Minors, Mini Clubmans, and midgets. Enjoying MG had an article on K MGB last year. I think you need to make soem bulkhead mods to the heater etc because of the distributor. For donor engines try http://www.roverbreakers.com or also for other K series specialists in classics: http://www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/ Other options for economy might be a diesel? One exists already in the south of England using a Seventies diesel unit from a Sherpa I think. (http://www.xpower-mg.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5212&password=&sort=1&cat=517&page=1) |

Check out the K series conversion page on this website. As far as i know, there aren't any K series conversions that use the original gearbox. Its all to do with the engine back plate. ~PHIL |
