MG MGB Technical - Kirkey Racing Seats-Advice ?
After some research and fund diversions, I am about to call Racer Wholesale and order a set of Kirkey Intermediate Seats. As usual, I like to consult this board for the wisdom of Those Who Have Gone Before Me. In my estimation the seats are kinda ugly but seem built for the job. What are they like to sit in? I am not sure what size to order. The 67 MGB has 16 inches of room between the tunnel and the sill. I would assume that means I order the Kirkey 16? Anyone ever mount one of these things? (Leland, you out there?) I know the supplier may have some answers, but I would rather have the advice of people who are not trying to sell me something. If anyone else has experience with other seats that are suitable for track days, I would also welcome their views. Pete |

Hi Pete, I am using a Kirkey in my 64 B. The seats are measured to fit your hips; so sitting down measure the widest point of your hips. My seat, measured this way, is snug without the padding and tight with the padding but is just what you want for the track. The Kirkey has good side supports up almost to your arm pit but because I have a long upper body I find myself bracing against the steering wheel and car body to keep my body still in hard corners. I am running 8 1/2" slicks so the B can develop pretty high G loads. So I am considering going to a seat with shoulder supports but for track days the Kirkey Intermediate sould work very well. |

My relatively lard butt (5'9", 215 lb) with a two layer suit and nomex drawers fit into a 16" Kirkey intermediate. I trimmed the chest bolsters a little to keep from chafing my armpits, but an othewise good fit. The chair is mounted relatively far back (my chimpanzee arms need to reach for the shifter) but the chamfer on the back of the Kirkey chair clears the sill radius. I'm running Kumho V700 victoracers, so i'm not seeing the side loads that Leland is. Unlsee your somone altitude chalenged and can mount the chair forward, beware of chairs with squared off sides where the side meets the back. I had to discard an Ultrshield chair as this corner ran into the sill radius forcing the chair too far forward for comfort |

Thanx for confirming my beliefs. I am 5,7" 160lb so I will be a bit forwards. The 16 on the passenger side will still allow for a few regular size passengers to go along for a ride. Greg- I am also thinking of running the Victoracers. I run them on my daily driver and they seem pretty good. Pete |
