MG MGB Technical - leaf springs u bolts,how tight?

hi ,any one know how tight the nuts should be on 1977 r/bumper mgb roadster u bolts,ive put new leaf springs and fitting kit on but cant seem to find any settings in my manual.regards richard

No I don't think you will find this info Rich. 25ft/lbs is OK

Chris Betson has recommended 25 ft/lbs in some previous posts.

Yes, it's a bit of a strange one because with rubber compression and so on you think that you are winding it up forever and at risk of stripping the bolts. Never fear though as 25ft/lbs is fine on oiled threads. You'll have to recheck frequently though and you need a deep socket.

I have read that you can crush the axle case if you overdo it. I can also tell you that the rubber will creep under compression and it is worth re-checking after a few months as they may be quite loose.

I always use ny-lock nuts for these so hopefully if they are loose they won't come undone. When I did them on my GT I did have to re-tighten them a few months after fitting new springs and rubbers.

I becomes pretty obvious when retorquing becomes necessary as the car will effectively try to steer one way under hard accelleration and the opposite during braking. It's easy to spot but sometimes not so easy to work out what the problem is.
