MG MGB Technical - Left front too far forward
My brother-in-law is working on his 8th mgb restoration. This one, a 1971, appears to have the left front wheel 3/4" too far forward. We measured the wheelbase on that side at 91 3/4" after carefully making sure the front tires were pointed straight and parallel to the rears. Also the left front tire has more space from the tire to the rear of the fender opening. The other 3 wheels appear to be centered in their fender openings. We find no signs of major exterior body or under side damage. Any ideas? Pete Bailey |

If you have not taken the left lower wish bone off it may be a good idea to remove it and examine it for a bent arm or elongated mounting holes. The other item of concern would be the cross member mounting Pad are in good condition and the bolts tight. Before doing anything I would try to locate a good point to make some measurements to see if the front axle and crossmember assembly are square to the car chassis. The Shop manual shows body and chassis measurements but you should be able to pick some good reference points and make enough measurements to get an idea what is out since you are looking for 3/4" you should be able to find the source of the offset. Good luck, Clifton |
