MG MGB Technical - Lever arms

I'm planning to put lever arms back on the rear. (comfort) I need to exchange the old units. But the prices vary so much , how do you know your not just getting a paint job.

I can thoroughly recommend Stevson Motors in Birmingham. Derek rebuilds all sorts of dampers, including lever arms, and does a very good job.
A lot of racers use his dampers.
He may not be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.

He reckons that B rear dampers are too soft and uprated the valves in mine, although I haven't used them yet.

I have had a couple of pairs of adjustable levers rebuilt for my midget, though.

I've recently gone back to lever-arms on my V8 as I was fed-up with the Spax. I bought a pair from Stoneleigh as they came complete with drop-arms and bottom brackets, reasoning that even if I had to exchange the dampers it was still loads cheaper than buying new parts throughout. If you have consistent damping throughout the range of the arm movement, and more importantly no 'dead area' at the mid-point when trying the waggle the arm up and down, you should be OK. And incidentally you should do this test with rebuilt exchange dampers as well. As to uprating, that is a matter of preference. I wouldn't want to go any harder for road use than I have now, but they are so much better than the Spax.
