MG MGB Technical - location hazard and flasher relay
Neither the hazard warning lights nor the headlight flasher work on my 1978 USA MGB. In order to trace the problem could someone indicate where the corresponding relays are located in the car and their external colour, as it's not clear from my workshop manual. Thanks for the help. |

Howdy Dean; Both are located above the passengers knees to the left of the wiper motor. Most common reason for not working is the hazard sw not pasing current to the t/s. Check it out with your test lamp. Power from the t/s flaser goes thru the hazard sw when it is off and feeds the t/s. When you turn on the hazard it shuts power off to the t/s. Check power at the flashers then go from there. Bob |

The hazard flasher has its own in-line fuse somewhere, brown both sides, then goes to the hazard flasher on a brown, and from there to the hazard switch on a light-green/brown. The turn flasher is a very similar unit, but with green and light-green/brown wires. If you have 12v both sides of the hazard flasher with the hazard switch on it is probably the switch or connections to it. The headlamp flasher is powered from the purple circuit, so if the horns and interior lights don't work either it is probably the bottom fuse in the fusebox. If they do then it is probably the switch, look for 12v on the purple and blue/white of the switch harness and the main loom with the switch pulled. |
