MG MGB Technical - Long Dormant Engine
Can anyone provide advise on the inspection, rotation and eventual start-up of an engine that has not run since 1987? The engine has approx. 93,000 miles on it, and was running well when used last. Engine sits in 1970 mgb roadster. Thanks Ewan |

Remove plugs try to turn by hand. If it doesn't move freely then rings rusted to bore. If OK then turn over on the starter (plugs out) to see if oil pressure comes up. If OK then try to start, it will probably be rough. Watch oil pressure. You'll probably need new engine electrics. Search the archives, plenty on this in them. |

There is a lengthy description called something like 'Waking up a little british car' on 'theAutoist.com' - At the very least I would change the oil before rotating it. Regards Vic |
