MG MGB Technical - Master Brake Cylinder Rebuild
I'm going to attempt to rebuild the master brake cylinder in my 70BGT. The kit was $14.95 as against $189.95 for the rebuilt unit. I have had spotty success in rebuilding brake and clutch cylinders before. Sometimes successful other times not. Can anyone offer suggestions for a satisfactory rebuild. |

If the bores are very scored or rusted you won't have much luck in rebuilding the cylinder. I also recommend that you buy a new cylinder because if you get it wrong you could wind-up dead. Wait for a sale as they can be had cheaper. I bought a new one on eBay for $125. |

I have checked out parts houses from Kragen's to Moss. There is not enough of a difference to buy the less expensive unit that may of may not work. I can't imagine getting a quality new MC for $49 when everyone else is close to $180. This week I am hoping for a little extra time and will still attempt the rebuild kit. It will be quickly noticed if it does not seal. In that event I will buy a new MC. |
