MG MGB Technical - Master Cylinder Circlip
I just finished rebuilding my 1976 MGB clutch master cylinder. In the process due to my inexperience or lack of tools or both, I have taken a lot of the spring out of the circlip (A few minutes ago I pushed it back in with my fingers at an intersection). Is there a replacement part for the circlip or do I need to replace the master cylinder push-rod and essentially rebuild the thing again. Thanks a lot. Casey |

Casey Should be a regular hardware store item. Internal snap ring, take yours in and match the size. you shold be ok as long as you did not go down into the cylinder with any tools and scratch the inside of the bore. On my first brake master rebuild I scratched the inner bore trying to get a inner snap ring out. It leaked... You have to have a set of snap righ pliers, not expensive. Mike |

Casey, Ditto on Mike's response. If you cannot find a hardware store that carries a variety of snap rings, I am sure that I have a loose one laying around and would be happy to send to you. While it would not be my first suggestion, you might be able to stretch your old one open a bit. The metal may be a little fatigued too. Keep in mind if you go to a hardware store, the one you have is a little too small right now. I can provide my email address to obtain your address if you want me to send you the snap ring. Thanks all, I was about to solder half a washer onto the cylinder to keep it in place, but now I am good to go. |
