MG MGB Technical - master cylinder circlips in '69 B
The brake master cylinder in my '69 B needs to be rebuilt. My current plan is to remove and disassemble the unit and ship the body out to be resleeved with a brass insert. I understand that disassembly can be difficult, particularly reaching and removing the internal circlips. Can someone recommend the correct tool/circlip pliers with sufficient "reach" to successfully perform this procedure? Ideally a tool that is available in the USA. Thanks for any assistance. |

James, if you're sending it out, why not let the professionals disassemble it. I have (I hope) finally learned that I don't have to do everything myself, and in some instances the cost vs time benefit just isn't there. |

James by all means have your "sleever" do the disassembly and assembly otherwise ,What would the warrenty cover? RIC |

James, I doubt if you will find the correct pliers anywhere. When I rebuilt my MC, I bought circlip pliers with long enough 'jaws', which I grinded until they where thin enough to fit between the piston and the MC wall. It's quite a fiddle, but it worked. If the rebuilder has a professional tool for this job, this may be the better option. Regards, Gerald. |
