MG MGB Technical - master cylinder pushrod
I need to replace the master cylinder push rod and brake pedal on my 1973 because of wear - the clevis pin seized up at some point. Anyone know where I can get the parts? |

Andy - It is much cheaper to have the holes in the push rod and the brake pedal welded shut and re-drilled than trying to find new components. any good machinist can do the work for you (check with the hot rod community in your area for a good machinist. Cheers - Dave PS. Once you find said good machinist, treat him/her VERY well - they are worth their weight in gold. |

You will probably need to do the pedal as well, both parts as well as the clevis pin had worn badly on mine. As "if you haven't found a use for something yet you haven't kept it long enough" is my watchword when I had replaced three masters of various types over the years even though I slung the cans I kept the push-rods and pistons and all three were better than the one I took out. The pedal I only partly welded up so I still had the 'reference' of the unworn side, then kept filing out, partially rewelding and filing again until I had a smooth hole. But at the end of the day wear there is really only a problem with the clutch, the brake pedal shouldn't be getting anywhere near the floor for clevis wear to start becoming a problem. |
