MG MGB Technical - Master cylinder question
I think about replacing the brake master cylinder on my '63 roadster just as a precautionary measure. The new master cylinder made by TRW has a plastic brake fluid reservoir, and I just feel a little uncomfortable about it. As many of you will know the design is such that if the joint between the metal pump and the plastic reservoir is leaking, the reservoir will be completely emptied. Does anyone know if there have been any problems with this? Tore |

Almost all new cars made today use this design. There is an O ring that seals the plastic reservoir to the top of the master cylinder and it is quite rare to see a failure at this junction. RAY |

If you put in the plastic, and you have an after market clutch master, it is a tight fit with the caps. I had to file the clutch cap to get it on. You may want to change the clutch master at the same time as the bolts for the brake cylinder are difficult to get at. |

If you need more room to clear the brake master cylinder, you can use the '68 and newer clutch master cylinder. It mounts on a slight angle to clear the larger dual circuit master cylinder used from '68 on. RAY |
