MG MGB Technical - Master Cylinder Trap Valve????
Does anyone know what these things do? I've checked the archives and no-one seemed to know in the past. |

I'm not answering my own question, but I just read the thread in "General" and apparently a search of the archives is case sensitive. So to help future searcher, I just wanted to repeat the title without capital. master cylinder trap valve. There. done! TTFN |

Hi Derek, I will give it a shot. I asked the same question a while back during a m/s rebuild. (my problem ended up being brake pedal adjustment.) Anyhow, I believe one of the replys I received on this subject was that the trap valves help even out the hydrulic pressure when you apply pressure to the brake pedal. This was on my 68B. It might help if you tell us what spec car you have. I am not sure of the setup on the vac assist units, if they have trap valves or not. Hope this helps. Ed 68B - needs clutch now :( 80BLE - getting there.... |

This mystery valve only seems to be installed in the non-servo, dual circuit master cylinder (1968-1974 1/2). This is my '73 I'm working on. Incidently, I've only checked the connection to my front brakes and I certainly didn't have a circlip holding the valve in place. The one listed in Moss as NA. It was held in place by the outlet adapter. Derek '76 'B (parts car, free) '73 'B (the only runner) '71 'B (2 of them, for good measure) '67 'B (the next 'B I'd like to bring back to life) '61 'A MkII (one day) '60 'A 1600 (another day) |
