MG MGB Technical - MC Piston
I have now gotten all the clips off but my piston still wont come out for a rebuild. Any suggestions as to how to get the piston out? I have a 74.5 MGB GT. Thanks! JOHN |

The first portion of the M/C bore often becomes rusted and makes piston removal difficult. Try pouring in a bit of rust dissolver (or Liquid Wrench) in the bore opening for a day or longer (hey, you're going to replace all the seals, right?). After that - then try pushing the piston all the way in and quicky let go - allowing the piston to suddenly snap outwards. The piston sort of acts as it's own "slide hammer" in this way. You'll might have to do this a few times...maybe a lot of times. Be sure to clean away every molecule of rust dissolver before installing any new seals, parts. |

I just found a site; partsamerica.com which sells a remanufactered master cylinder for this car at $59.00. Doesn't have the resuvour but everything else. Has anyone used this manufacuter? The picture looks the same as the one I removed. Would be a lot easier and cheaper than mess with this. John |

If you think that getting the piston out of the M/C is fun...wait'll you try to separate the two piston assys, get the new seals on without ripping them, then get the two assys back together. I couldn't find the MGB M/C at the partsamerica site, but you'd be wise to get a new or professionally rebuilt M/C in order to preserve your sanity and good nature. |

The MC from Parts America is rebuilt by A1 Cardone (sp) or name. They are a well known rebuilder. I bought mine about 2 years ago. I renewed the O rings and attached the resuvour. Not a leak and a very strong pedal. I also believe I got a lifetime garentee on the master cylinder. I also got my front brake calipers from them. Same company rebuilt them. The garentee is a big seller. No problems yet. Cris |

Can't say this will work for the B, but on US cars, I have put a zirc fitting into the bleeder area and used a grease gun to pressurize the piston. |
