MG MGB Technical - Mechanical Fuel Pump

Has anyone ever seen a mechanical fuel pump available for the 18V engine? For some reason there is a blanking plate on the block for a fuel pump. Was there another car that used this engine with a mechanical fuel pump. I'm having problems with my 2 year old SU fuel pump and I would prefer a mechanical driven pump if possible.

Thanks,

There were a number of other applications of the 18V like for the Morris Marina in the UK and Sherpa van. At least one of these used a mechanical pump, I think. The blocks if not complete engines sometimes turn up in an MGB where the original engine packed up.

There is nothing inherently wrong with the original SU fuel pump, they have a very long and very satisfactory record. Correctly set up and with no bad components they should last for 20 years or more. I've had bad experiences with a modern electronic replacement but that was a Moprod, so much so I have gone back to a refurbished points type SU and had no more problems. If you are having problems with an SU there is something wrong with it that can be fixed relatively cheaply, not least by sending it off to David Dubois who is an MG enthusiast and specialist in these pumps.

Tim, you DON'T want a mechanical pump.
I owned a Austin Marina with one.
On hotter days, it would develop vapor lock, and or run out of gas with the single HIF, at full throttle.
Get a good electic pump.
I use the Facet.
