MG MGB Technical - mgb brake question
I have been in the process of rebuilding the front brake calipers of my mgb. The brakes were locking up not retracting back into the calipers. I have replaced the flexible hoses, installed new seals and pistons. Unfortunately, the problem continues to exist. The Moss rebuild kit came with two pistons, dust seals, and fluid seals in each package. I wonder if in wit a siege of brain farting I have installed the dust and fluid seals incorrectly. One is a solid piece of rubber the diameter of the cylinder. The other seal has a V shaped grove cut into it. My question is which is the dust seal and which the fluid seal. I have the seal with the V grove on the outer groove under the dust seal retainer. Am I wrong? |

You have got it right, did you lubricate the seals when you installed the pistons, if not you may have twisted the seals,l would remove the pistons and check. |

What year is your car? This makes a great deal of difference in that the early cars, '62 to '67, used a single circuit braking system with the brake light switch operated by hydraulic pressure. The '68 and later dual circuit systems had the brake light switch mounted against the brake pedal. If this switch is incorrectly adjusted, it will prevent the brake fluid from returning to the master cylinder when the pedal is released and cause the brakes to lock up. RAY |

Ray is correct i had this problem. A little to far in and the brake switch puts just enough pressure on th master cylinder piston to slightly occlude the return hole |
