MG MGB Technical - MGB Clutch Master Cylinder
I've searched the archives without success, so... The M*ss catalogue lists different clutch master cylinders for 3 and 4 synchro. Is there a significant difference and are they interchangeable? There would appear to be only one slave cylinder listed. |

Dave. The two differ internally and require two different rebuild kits. Physically, they are externally identical and will interchange with no problems. Les |

According to the Parts Catalogue there were three different clutch masters for the 4-cylinder. From the 1st to the 2nd (3 sync to 4 sync) the external difference is that the top is canted away from the brake master a little to make access to the cap easier. According to Clausager the 3rd master has concentric rings on the barrel, but otherwise is interchangeable with the 2nd type. Again from the Parts Catalogue, the repair kit part number is the same for the first and 2nd types (8G 8424), but changes for the 3rd type (BHM 7127)! |
