MG MGB Technical - MGB GT marker lights

I have a 1971 MGB GT that I have just finished a complete re-do on , my question is are the marker lights on that years supposed to function in both parking light mode and headlight mode or just in headlight mode as mine does.It seems a bit weird to me as both my other later models function in both modes.I tried a new headlight switch with same results. Any ideas from anyone--thanks

1970 to mid-72 (model years) they operate with the headlights, after that with the parking lights when the seat belt warning was introduced. It is nothing to do with the switch, it depends on whether the wiring comes off the blue (headlight) wire or the red (parking light) wire.

Take a look at the wiring diagram for your car. Wiring diagrams are available at http://www.advanceautowire.com click on stock schematics.
You will notice that the marker lights have blue wires going to them. They are unfused. If you want to change the circuit so the marker lights come on with the tail lights look at the later wiring diagrams, you will see that it is fairly easy to connect the marker lights to the red wire circuit and disconnect the blue wire to the marker lights on the headlight switch to prevent the possibility of a short.
Below is a link to one thread about the blue wire going to the marker lights.

I own a '71 B/GT (original owner).

The side marker lights come on only with
the headlights.

In "parking" light mode (aka: running lights)
only the turn indicator lights come on.

OK thanks to Paul, Kimberly and Daniel that was what I figured from the wiring diagram but wanted to confirm . Such a great site for feedback --much appreciated !!
