MG MGB Technical - MGB GT rust repair question

Hello all, I am the proud new owner of a 1971 MGB GT. It too has serious rot in the rockers and even deeper into the side members, but just the lower sections on both sides. In reality, its not too bad considering that I plan to do the work myself. The floorboards are solid and most everything else in the car is as well. I have done this type work before as in repair work but not quite to the degree in that it was rust repair. My major question is.... Is there a video out there showing a step by step process of the replacement of these parts. I just want to be sure that I am doing things right. Im the type of person who likes to have some sort of guide to go by. Any info would be appreciated.

I'm in the process to change the two side sill to my BGT 1972, see http://www.chicagolandmgclub.com, good source.

Hi,

In the UK you can contact Mossop Motor Factors. Chichester, West Sussex. They have a DVD or Video for sale showing sill work on MGB's and midgets for £9 (this includes postage for UK. I can't vouch for the quality of the DVD/Video but you could contact them to find postage costs for yourself at roger@mossopmf.fsnet.co.uk

I have also seen a similar DVD advertised on e-bay. Hope this all helps.

I've never done this on a GT but I believe the roof makes the car less likey to bow or hog than a "roadster" with the sills off. It's not too difficult and there is a lot in the archives. With solid sills the car handles and rides realy well.

Did make a big difference in my GT - no more cracking and creaking when I go over speed bumps!
Still, do make sure that you brace the door openings fully, GT or not - best not to take chances.

Good Luck!
