MG MGB Technical - MGB Headlight Unit

I’ve got a 72’ MGB which needs some new headlight parts (one of them fell out whilst driving along !), basically all that was left in the car was the black plastic ‘cup’ that holds the headlight unit and is screwed on & everything behind it. I ordered some parts from the net & requested the headlamp unit, rubber retaining ring & outer chrome rim.

When I got the parts, there was no rubber retaining ring, but instead a metallic ring, and a metallic version of the black cup (but just the rim part & not the oval cup part, and a retaining clip + chrome rim. These new parts obviously don’t fit.

I’ve tried to explain to them that these are different parts to what I need but don’t seem to be getting anywhere. Do you know if there are different types of headlamp setup for this age MG, as need to try and get it on the road ASAP.

For your year of car you should have:-
1 rubber gasket - fits between car body and metal cup, normally has two protrusions that push through holes in the body, these are to accommodate the adjusters.
1 metal cup with two adjusters plus attachment hole in middle for spring.
1 metal ring which slots on to the adjusters and is held against the metal cup by a spring.
1 headlamp - sealed beam or H4 conversion
1 chromed retaining ring, secures glass headlamp to metal ring with three self tappers.
The beam can now be adjusted by screwing the adjusters in or out, top one adjusts height of beam and side one, sideways movement. Do this before fitting final piece which is polished chrome ring.

Thanks Graham.

Looks like the parts they have supplied me with fit your description, so think I may as well get the same for the other light, rather than try and get parts to match the ones already on there.

Cheers,
Darren.
