MG MGB Technical - MGB Master Cylinder
Hi All, I posted this same question a while back, but didn't get a difinitive answer. I have a California spec '75 B with a "blown" master cylinder. This same cylinder also has a badly fractured reservoir. This car uses a "wedge-shaped" reservoir, which is NLA. My question is whether or not I can replace this cylinder with the one using the more "square-shaped" reservoir. The car has already been converted to SU's, and does have the dual circuit master cylinder, and brake booster. We are (hopefully) getting on towards the time when MG's will once again see the roads, so I'd like to get this job done in preparation for that blessed day. Any help or advice will be much appreciated. JR |

The Moss catalog states that the later MC (77-80) can be used instead of the earlier wedge-shaped one. Only problem might be the SUs hitting the booster or cylinder, but if the wedge-shaped version fits, so should the square one. |

" We are (hopefully) getting towards the time MG's will be on the road" Jr Jr, ever the optimist. You were here for the snow storm on the weekend weren't you? Ken 70B |

To Ken Harris, Hey Ken, I'm about 50 miles North of Barrie, so don't talk to me about the snow or cold. You're right.....I'm just being optomistic. It's that feined optomism which prevents me from going out into that cold and snow and baying at the moon, or other equally nutty things. Let's all try to be optomistic. If I thought it would hurry Spring....I'd even go to Church and make confession. :-) JR |

To JR and Ken, speaking temp. it will be -28C next night, far from a MGB ride. JR do you know peninsula import in ontario, I bought parts from them at a good price and Nemac too near ottawa. I also found a brand new master from United brakes #39085 from my prefered auto parts less expensive than Moss. Cheers, JGC |

JGC. I use peninsula for all my parts. They are only a short drive away, and service is usually great. Keep warm, it is supposed to warm up tomorrow...to minus 7 Ken 70 B |
