MG MGB Technical - MGB Power
Hi Guys, I have a really nice MGA and I want more power. I'm thinking a MGB engine bored to 4 thou, ported and polished head, mild street cam, flat top pistons, maybe some of those roller rockers that I've seen on E-Bay. Topping it all off with K&N filters and a more open exhaust. How much horse power can I expect? Any thoughts of what I should or not do will be appreciated. Thanks, Neal Turner |

Just from my experience, for about $3000-3500 you can go that way and get about 125hp. Otherwise you could consider a basic rebuild and a supercharger. The options are really open. I'm not sure if the supercharger will fit in the A, but where there's a will there's a way. Check the A board, and the supercharger board. |

I wouldn't bother with the roller rockers on a street driven car, they're very expensive and wear quickly. OK on a full race engine where it gets torn down and rebuilt frequently. I assume you meant .040" or 40 thou on the bore. Lots of piston choices available there, and gives you room for an overbore to .060" come rebuild time. That engine should make you quite happy in comparison to a stock MGA engine. Take a look at this website and look at the tech articles on cylinder heads (MGB 25) with regard to piston choice. http://www.mgbmga.com |
