MG MGB Technical - MGB Roaster aerial
Just snapped the aerial off my '77 mgb roadster and have got a replacement one, but not sure how to get at the thing to replace it. No way in from under the bonnet and alot of stuff in the way from the dashboard-any advice on how to get to it and replace it? Thanks |

Hi, If its like the one I had on my front wing. You got at it from the wheel arch. There is a splash panel that goes between the inner wing and outer wing with a rubber seal on it. This is either screwed or bolted on (most likely rusted on by now). Remove this to get access to the underside of the wing. |

Right thanks, looks like you have to take the wheel off for that? Do you need proper axel stands to do that sort of thing with the wheel off or can you just use tha jack? |

Dan If the splash panel bolts are not rusted you could put full lock on your steering and not take the wheel off, though It is probably best to take the wheel off and support the car on an axel stand. You will need to take the interior kick panel trim off from the footwell to feed the ariel cable through. Robert |

Dan - Before tearing into the splash panel, look at the aerial itself. If there is a nut onthe top of the insulator that sits on the wing, undo the nut and allow the assembly to drop down a bit. You will probably find a toggle on the underside of the wing that will flip up and you can pull the whole thing out. Additionally, I think that you will find that you can access the under side of the aerial from the rear access hole on the side of the engine compartment, at least that is the way it is on our 66 MGB. When you unplug the aerial's cable on the back of the radio, tie a string to the end, then pull the cable out. Once out, tie the string to new aerial's cable and pull the string and cable through the dash. There'll be some finessing, but this prevents you from having to "push a rope" and makes the reconnection easier. |

David is right, you should be able to get it at it from the inside of the engine compartment. |
