MG MGB Technical - mgb shop manuals online
Does anyone know where to find mgb shop manuals online? Also, is anyone interested in talking about the clutch & linkage for a 1972 bgt? It would be most helpful. Many thanks, -D. |

David- Click on this- http://www.bentleypublishers.com/resource.htm?subject=12 You'll Probably want "The Complete Official MGB 1962-1974" It's a reprint of the original factory service manual that the mechanics at the MG dealers had. Now, mine is a 1972 model. What's the deal with your clutch? |

Steve, Sorry, I got busy for a few days. Thanks for the info on the manuals. With regard to the clutch linkage, I've noticed there's a fair bit of discussion in this list concerning the bleeding of the hydralic lines. I don't know if that's what's behind my problem, but I suppose it may be. The action of my clutch pedal seems to vary from day to day. Often, (and more so recently than before) I have to pump the clutch in order to have operation of the clutch at all. Is there a way to make a quick assessment, just to sus the situation out, without getting into the whole bleeding thing? I'll continue to read the archive on clutch issues, but if you can help me with any of your own insights, I'd be grateful. Many thanks, -D. |

You should get 1/2" to 5/8" of travel of the slave piston with full travel of the pedal. But if yours is erratic it sounds like your seals are going. If you have to pump it, and are not losing any fluid, blame the MC seals, but pumping shouldn't work with a clutch anyway unless something like the flex hose is rotting and blocking internally. If you do the MC do the slave and replace the flex hose at the same time. Pump the fluid out of the MC with the pedal until clean fluid flows, replace the parts, then refill from the slave nipple using a gunsons on very low pressure to avoid the need for bleeding which is always problematical. |
