MG MGB Technical - MGB spindles
I've not owned an MGB for maybe 20 years so my memory is a bit faded. Can the spindles in the front suspension be removed from the main casting with a press or are the machined from the same piece of metal? I need to get some MGB spindles to fit some other suspension units (looooong story). Thanks Rob |

Rob, do you mean the kingpins? If so then yes. Remove the top nut and they all slide apart. Best of.... MGmike |

No, I think he means the stub axle...in which case, no. |

It's the parallel-to-the-ground bit. I've never really got my head around the different names for the parts. For the Morris, you can press them out (circa 10 tons) and on the midget there are some assemblies available where the piece has been machined out of the casting and a new, stronger one has been welded in. Thanks for the confirmation, Dave. Ultimately, I would have liked to have been able to insert an MGB 'thingamabob' into a Morris 'whatchamacallit' to let me use MGB hubs on the Morris-style leg. |

Can you not use Marina uprights, or a Spridget disc conversion? |

r The stubaxle (thingamabob) and the spindle (whatchamacalit) are all one piece on the MGB Maybe an option would be some wheel bearings that are mgb outside diameter to fit the MGB hubs and Morris size inside dia. to fit your Morris ? stubaxles I guess that you are wanting to fit disc brakes and possibly wire wheels-- If so you have the added problem of manufacturing disc caliper mountings MGA's have a bracket for the caliper that bolts on instead of the old drum brake backing plate--could be an option What sort of Morrie are you playing with willy |
