MG MGB Technical - mgbgt fuel problems
hi i am having problems starting my 1973 bgt.she has been stood for quite som time.to get her to fire i squirt a shot of easy start into the air intakes with filters removed but she will not carry on running.wwith choke full on and a squirt of easy start in the intakes she will fire and run at 3000rpm for about 10-15secs before cutting out.if i put my hand over the front carb blocking the air intake she will run but only at very high revs.take my hand away and she cuts out.any ideas? have done all the basic cleaning etc |

Maybe a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump. Then again maybe not. I reread your question, if you hold your hand over the front carb it will continue to run? How long, will it run indefinately or still eventually stall? It appears that if it continues to run with your hand over the car then it may be too lean, (your hand stopping some of the air flow causing a rich mixture). Have you tried adjusting the carbs to run more rich? |
