MG MGB Technical - midget dizzy in a mgb?
Will a midget dizzy fit a mgb without modification? |

Steve. The Midget distributor is, most probably, a Lucas 25D4 if it is from an older car. Thus, physically, it will interchange with the Lucas 25D4 distributors used in the MGBs and other vehicles with either an A series or a B series engine. How well the mechanical advance curve would match the requirements of any engine would be something to consider. But, physically, they do interchange. The exception to this might be the later model distributors used in the 75 onwards Midgets. These vehicles used a Triumph engine, the 1500, and I would expect them to have a Triumph type distributor in them. (The BMC engines used a distributor drive gear which was captive inside the engine block to engage a distributor drive dog on the distributor shaft. The Triumph distributor had the distributor drive gear pinned to the distributor shaft and both the distributor and shaft were removed, as a complete assembly, from the engine.) Les |
