MG MGB Technical - More fog/driving lights
| When I first bought the car, it came with a box of parts - I assume all MGs do, no? Anyway, in the box are a couple of driving/fog lights - one yellow and one white. Is this is proper set or two half-sets? How/where do they typically mount on an MGB. These have some sort of mounting shaft that comes out the side. Do they hang or stand on end? Also, how do you wire them - do they go on independently or together? Is there wiring in the harness for them? I saw the chat over on the other thread about the proper use vs ornamental use of these devices - not trying to take sides here, just gathering information. Thanks. Curt ('69 MGB) |

| Curt, On my '69 midget I have round lamps mounted on chrome brackets that are curved and extend up from the front bumper bolts where they attach to the apron. My fog lamp (yellow) is mounted on the left (drivers side), and a driving lamp (clear) mounted on the right. I have them switched independantly, wired from the fuse box through the switch, and a relay between the switch and the lamps. On the MGB several lamps were available. Lucas made round stem mount which could be mounted on a badge bar or bracket similar to the Midget, or back mount units mounted through the grille. Also available were rectangular "square eights" that could be mounted as a stem mount above, or pendent below the bumper by reversing the lens? I had a set of these on my B/GT a few years back and they worked well. Below the bumper could be a problem with a lowered ride height. Regards, L.C. '74 B/GT |
