MG MGB Technical - Need Wires, Tach, Steering Wheel 72 MGB

Hello all,
Not having much luck finding used parts and I trust the members here more than strangers.

I am looking to purchase some new wire wheels in good shape. Mine are out of round and cost as much as new to refurbish.

I am also looking for a tachometer. Mine is cosmetically great, but doesn't work. I've checked the wiring, but to my knowledge, it's broken. It's getting current, cause when I disconnect it won't start.

I am also looking for a good use steering wheel. Mine is pretty rusted on the metal centers and the leather is fair.

Anyone have any of these parts, please e-mail me directly.

Best regards,
Doug

PS: I will be in Budapest 10/31 - 10/23, but should get e-mail.

Doug,

I have a fairly decent looking steering wheel from a '73. The metal spokes look good. With an aftermarket leather cover, the rim looks good too but the original "foam-like" rim material was split when I covered it several years ago. You can have it for the cost of shipping. Best bet with your tach is to send it to Nissonger. It will probably cost you around $100 but it will come back looking like new and with a warranty.

Regarding wire wheels, perhaps ten years ago I bought a new set of Daytons. At that time the Dunlops were cheaper but quality control was not good and they were not recommended. I now hear that those problems have been corrected and that Dunlops are now a good buy. ' Hope somebody else has better updated information than I do. Personally, I think wire wheels are a PITA and I'd be looking for "Minilite" knock-off replicas if I were you - but then, they're so darned expensive!

My 2¢ worth...

Doug, I assume you have the tachometer with the white winding inside. I have two but I don't think they are very accurate, they do work. If you want to try one all it will cost is the shipping. They have a calibration screw under a rubber plug on the back so you may be able to calibrate it so it's not too far off. If interested email me at;

Provide a shipping address and I'll get it in the mail. You can send the shipping costs later. It will require a 2lb. shipping rate from zip code 27203. Like Allen said you may be happier with one rebuilt by Nissonger.
