MG MGB Technical - Needles (Stromberg CD150 - no emissions stuff
79 MGB Californian car....Now in Belgium so no need for the emissions gear.. So I've seen the air pump and associated pipes have been ditched by the PO, I've just pulled off the incredible air filter system and cat converter. I also see the carb isn't the original eg no water heater or electronic choke ( I'm guessing !!). Can anyone tell me which needle I should be using ? and how to ID the needle I have ? Many thanks Matt |

You more than likely have a 45h needle if its the original carb. A manual choke conversion may have been done to it. When I was still running the zs carb I tried the K&N filter and it was not possible to set the engine rich enough. Ran very very lean. Since your not worried about smog best bet is to ditch that carb and get a good set of su's or a webber. |

If your needle is the spring loaded type like my 175, then pull on the needle, and the number is printed on the side of it, right at the barrel. You have to pull on the needle to see it. As Stewart said, its probably a 45h if its from California, unless the PO changed it out. John |

Thanks guys, I'm sorry its a CD175 carb. The car is now up and running however I find without an airfilter the rev's keep building up, I guess not enough oil in the dashpot. I'll check the needle and ditch the cat, then try again. Kind regards |
