MG MGB Technical - New Sills suggestions
Hi, just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for where I can get both sills done on my MGB somewhere in the liverpool area. Looking for somewhere reputable who won't mess it up after bad experiences with garages in the past! Also any idea of how much this will cost? Cheers Tim |

Try J&R Motors, 111 Greenway Road, Prenton, Wirral. 0151 645 7200. Haven't used them myself as I've always done my own repairs, but I know they do MGB work and they are recommended by the MG Owners' Club. |

Tim, I was quoted about £1500 a side for full sills, front wing and floor pan from www.entune2000.co.uk near Bolton for a 70 BGT. I have just bought a different BGT instead as I don't think it is economical to repair the sills! (see www.mymgb.co.uk) My new BGT cost less than £2k. I am going to move the engine from the 70 BGT when I break it (on the 5th August if you fancy ripping a car apart for a day there are half a dozen people coming round. I am 3 miles from jcn 10 of M56) and move other good parts over in time. If it is a roadster the maths may stack up in your favour so might be better to repair than replace. Also try contacting Martin at www.upgrades4mgs.co.uk as he had excellent sills done in Chester area for a very good price, but it was slow! HTH Iain |

Thanks for the suggestions, will give them a look. Mine's a 1970 BGT too; will have to see whether it really is worth doing - just seems such a shame not to bother when the rest of the car's ok really. Starting a new job at the beginning of August and on holiday before that so don't really have time to get into the repairs myself. Its a shame that the MOT can't be relied upon to detect anything more than the worst corrosion otherwise I might have thought twice about buying the car a couple of years ago! Anyway, many thanks for your replies Tim |

Hi I'm new on here but have a few years any many experiences of MGB's. If you guys don't mind a trip down south there is a guy that does the work for no more than £500/side (excl painting to your colour I think) and he is bl@@dy good too. He used to be a director with mg specialists Mechspec based near Chichester but now works on his own. You can buy a DVD for a tenner on eBay from him which details the precise work that is done to each side. It has gotta be value for money for a chrome bumper car, probably not so for a rubber bumper car unless of course its a V8!! Cheers |

On the other side of pond we get 800.00 dollars plus parts to replace sills per side, this does not include inner sills or floors, paint is extra. It does include replacing the dog leg sections. It really is a very time consuming job that takes good tools to do the job properly. it's like replacing your foundation in your house without disturbing the pictures on the walls. |
